As Deputy Clerk, Richard Pye supports the Clerk in providing advice on Senate and committee proceedings and leading and managing the Senate department. He is secretary to the Senate Privileges Committee and the Senators' Interests Committee and represents the department in numerous forums across the parliamentary service, including the Presiding Officers' ICT Advisory Board.His corporate governance roles include chairing the department's Program Managers group and its Audit Committee. He leads the Senate Public Information Office, which works to improve the way the department compiles and shares information, and oversees the department’s learning and development program. Mr Pye holds degrees from Sydney University in Economics and Law, and joined the Senate department in 1992. Before his appointment as Deputy in 2011, he led the Table Office and the Procedure Office and was secretary to various committees.
